How Sammy Sosa Lost It All

Who is Sammy Sosa? That should be an easy question to answer.
Sammy Sosa was a baseball player. He was also an MVP, a 30/30 hitter, and the only person in Chicago Cubs history with more than 600 home runs.
But he’s more than that. To some, Sosa helped breathe life back into baseball following the 1994 strike. To others, he’s a pariah; the face of the biggest scandal to rock the game in a century.
Sosa’s legacy is complicated. His prime seasons are among the best ever, while simultaneously being undercut by years of cheating. The result is one of the most controversial, divisive, and often downright bizarre careers in the history of sports.
So I ask again. Who is Sammy Sosa?

As an High School Umpire I'm guessing you are right that is combinations of many people coming up with one or two signals and more people adapting them over time. I'm guessing the idea or Right Hand Strike and Left hand Ball did come from Dummy and his coaches, and some umpires thought it was a good idea and integrated that over time.

Back before Interleague play, I want to say Nolan was the only pitcher to have wins versus all 28 teams; as you would have to have played for 4 teams (2 AL and 2 NL) and face the other team and get a win versus them.

Joyce should had been fired on the spot. (Yes I understand he was in a union that prevented that). He not only denied thousands of paying fans the opportunity to witness a once in a lifetime chance to see a perfect game and prevented Galaraga the opportunity to enter the record books. he did so by blowing an obvious call that was clear in real time, but not only that, he gave the benefit of the doubt to the runner on a routine ground ball after Galaraga had set down 26 straight batters. Why? Who cares if he was good at calling balls and strikes? In the biggest moment of his career he failed miserably and should be judged accordingly.

What I don't understand is why some umpires feel they must make the call literally immediately after the play. Did Joyce know he fucked the call right after he made it or did he have to see the replay? It really wasn't that close of a play.
